The Journey begins.....

Day One

Today I am deciding to become more of what God is calling me to be. I am surrendering my choices to Him and letting Him lead me in ALL area of life- including my weight. This is not about looks or even how I feel. This is about surrendering to God and living a life of obedience to Him. I want to make choices that honor Him and bring Him glory. I want to rely on Him and find security and comfort in Him. I am ready to make physical sacrifices in order to grow spiritually as I shrink physically! In His strength and only in His strength can I do this but I know that "I can do all things in Christ who gives me strength!"

My weight has been an issue most of my life.  When I was younger, I was obsessed with being thin. I would quite literally starve myself rather than gain even 1 pound and I was constantly aware of every calorie. I was thin, very thin, but I wasn't very healthy, physically or spiritually. At the age of 19, I met the love of my life and after years of dating and a long engagement, we were married 6 years later. Now 18 years and 2 children later, I am blessed, happy and still very much in love with my amazing husband, but rather than being obsessed with food, I don't even think about what I'm eating. Life has been too busy (at least that has been my excuse) and we have eaten cheap, quick meals that are anything but low in fat. But that is all changing! I want to be healthier, I want my husband to be healthy, and I want my children to be healthy now and also learn to make wise food choices throughout their life.

So I am beginning a new journey today. No fad diets or crazy weight loss plans- I've tried most of them and though they work for a time, the results only last as long as the diet. No, I am beginning a journey to complete obedience to God and I will care for my body as the temple of God that it is.  I cannot do this in my strength. In my strength I will fail. I am choosing to do this in His strength and to His glory and I will need His help every moment along the way. I may fall, but I will continue this journey the rest of my life.

My goals are simple. I want to make healthy choices and honor my God. I am not setting a specific goal because this is not a race- I am beginning a new marathon! I know God designed my body to move and the food I eat should be for nutrition. So that's where I start. My goals for this week are to
1. Move more (exercise every day)
2. Eat foods God created for me to eat (as few processed foods as possible)

I'm excited to begin this journey and anxious to get started!!! Here we go.......
